Following are eight evidences, given in God’s Word, that reveal if a person is truly born again. (There are more, but we have listed these eight so that you may use then to examine yourself to see if you are in the faith.)

According to Scripture, the following will be true of a genuinely saved person.

1. He Is a New Creature
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” (II Cor. 5:17)
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.” (Gal. 6:15)

Only God Knows Each Heart

If we were to ask, “Whom does God save?”, our first thought would be: those who have a humble, broken and contrite heart.

• Ps. 34:18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

This is true. But, as we look a little further, in the book of Acts we see that the Apostle Paul recognized that God saves those who fear God. This fear means a reverent awe for God.

Truly born again believers—who have been in church for even a few months—have told me they are confused about what is going on in the church. Many new believers have come to me, hurting, in confusion, and with some very on target questions:

Are all the people who are members in the church actually born again?

Why do they seem to love the things of the world?

Why do they seem to be motivated by flesh and pride—but are never convicted about it?
